Marathon Running
I’ve been a runner since the Fall of 2008. I took up running in the same year that my daughter was born. It is probably of no surprise to any first-time parents that the turmoil that the first year of your child’s life brings also has you asking big life questions. For me, at 230 pounds and a heavy drinker, the question was “how am I going to keep up with this kid?”
Luckily, I was able to develop my weight loss goal into a lifelong running habit. After completing my first marathon in 2009 I became addicted to running. However, over the years I would call it a begrudging addiction. Some years I find myself running almost every day and vigorously racing, and other years I will go months at a time without even thinking about a run. This is why I call my new venture in running the Damn! Running Co. After more than a decade of running, I’ve found this hobby to be quite a chore still. I always think to myself “It’s time to go for another Damn! run.” I’ve gotten marginally better at running and while at times it can be quite enjoyable, it is always hard work, and Damn! it sucks!
